Pragati Promotions

A well-known eco-village resort, Pragati Resorts came to us as clients looking for an agency that could provide quick delivery on a range of promotional material for their facilities, seasonal and festive offers and special events.

Over the course of nearly a year, Myth has produced an array of flyers, brochures, coupons, hoardings, road signs, banners and exhibition stalls for the resort. While the list is rather exhaustive and features a play night, New Year celebrations, Monsoon discounts, Spa packages and more….what you see here is just a small selection of what has been an ‘Event-Full’ year.

M.Des Website (DA-IICT)

The website for our alma maters, the M.Des program at DA-IICT, Gandhinagar was a surprise project. This interactive site development in Flash came online just in time for the new admission season this year. The site, which uses the metaphor of an edited document – highlights design projects completed by students of the program while providing necessary details regarding admissions, curriculum, faculty and alumni.

Many thanks to both the faculty, and our fellow alumni and friends for their prompt feedback and for sending in their work and resumes in time for the site to go online. And to the new batch of M.Des who must be opening their acceptance letters about now, welcome aboard!!

Bhasha Van - A Forest of Languages

Initiated by Bhasha in 2010, The Peoples Linguistic Survey of India is a nationwide survey on existing languages across India, which seeks to answer the question 'How many living languages does India have?' As a natural extension to this project, Bhasha also initiated the creation of Bhasha Van, literally ‘a language forest’, on the campus of the Adivasi Academy at Tejgadh.

A project entrusted to Myth, Bhasha Van has been envisioned as an actual and metaphorical forest, representative of both the diversity of flora and languages of our country. Since language is oral before it is written, Bhasha Van introduces its visitors to the languages of India through the means of audio guides, taking the visitor through the physical area of the Van while moving through the tales of its linguistic traditions.

Bhasha Van as it stands today is an  outdoor display consisting primarily of trees representing languages and language families of India. Visitors are encouraged to wander through the Van, approach the trees and listen to their stories. Some of these trees are hung with plaques on which tri-lingual information about little known languages are presented. There are also five rest-stop designed to allow visitors to rest their feet and engage with interactive displays on language families, scheduled languages, non-scheduled languages and even contribute narratives in their own mother tongues.

Folk art, in the form of paintings, pottery and wood work installed at various locations forms an integral part of this the Van. Located in the land adjacent to The Vaacha Museum of Voice at the Academy, Bhasha Van as a thriving forest of linguistic diversity complements the diversity of living traditions and material cultures housed within the Museum building.

The transformation of what was previously a plantation area, into the outdoor display of Bhasha Van has been done with great care. Not a single tree has been cut or transplanted and minimal metal and cement has been used. The displays on the trees have been secured with rope (made of natural fibers) as opposed to nails, to accommodate the future growth these trees.

Audio Guides, in English and Gujarati, guide the visitor through this sprawling language complex which currently represents 100 Indian languages. Visitors are encouraged to contribute language samples of their own mother tongues and engage in the conservation and growth of the same. Plans are also underway to introduce a Hindi audio tour and extend the Van to encompass 700 Indian languages in the days to come.

Bhasha Van, located at the Adivasi Academy, Tejgadh is approx. 90km from the city of Vadodara in Gujarat. Tejgadh enjoys good road and rail connectivity with Vadodara. For more details contact Bhasha Research and Publication Centre (www.bhasharesearch.org)

Zesty Treat!

No, we're not offering free food nor are we trying out new recipes in our small office pantry!
Zesty Treat is the name of a newly opened restaurant and banquet hall in Baroda/ Vadodara whose logo, menu and stationary was designed by Myth.

A combination of bright red and yellow, the logo colors were selected to best depict the energy of this new establishment and its mouthwatering, piping hot fare which is a mix of Punjabi, Chinese and Continental.

Having popped in on their opening day, we can safely say that their food is a 'SAFE BET' as well, tasty and not too hard on the pocket either!

Spring cleaning

It’s been a while since I last got the chance to put something up on this blog. Admittedly since the start of our little company, we’ve had quite a few ups and downs and a whole lot of hiccups to contend with. These little starting problems still crop up from time to time….but we finally got down to giving the site a much needed update as we batten down the hatches to survive yet another monsoon….

The funny thing about this murky weather is not so much the drowsy, human feeling but rather the non-cooperative machinery that has been plaguing us. The computers have all been showing an increased tendency to pick up sniffles and coughs in this weather in quite a mind boggling manner seeing as they are after all…just machines…

Prevention might be better than cure however as we quite literally scrambled for cover by backing up every project and dead project that’s passed through our offices in the past 6 months. The silver lining in all this being that when we actually sat down to do the update there wasn’t much of the search for files and formatting as when we went into our Beta version.

Up this time around are a few of our more commercial minded projects…hey, a designer’s got to earn a living man and all can’t just be functional, beautiful, perfect at the same time. Still we do manage to make orange and pink go together better than the latest Bollywood fad, if I do say so myself :)

But, coming back to the updates, we have a few reports for Dasra, a non-profit into investment services and Manuals for an organic farm that breeds rabbits, emu and other exotics…also music CD’s from the tribal belt and a website for a travel agency that specializes in custom made tours…

There’s a lot more we could add but for the moment we are a bit swamped….a new area we’re exploring is online portfolios for designers and artists who want their web presence to be as distinctive and individual as their work.

Till later then…chao!!!

In the News

Myth Design made it into the local mags and papers!!!
Nearly 6 months down the line from the launch of our biggest project yet – The National Consortium of Tribal Arts and Culture or NCTAC for short, we’re still getting calls for interviews and sound bytes as newspapers and magazines discover this one of a kind installation at Tejgadh…

Named Vaacha, which means voice, the interactive is set in an imaginary tribal village where one can visit the homes, fields, forests and market place to interact with the various tribal communities of India. Tribal paintings inspire the many folktales narrated at different points of the interactive and there are also video clips of fairs, festivals, dances and religious rituals. Over 30 different spaces can be visited each with multiple access points so that the interactive is a unique experience for each viewer.

Considering its is perhaps a first of its kind museum interactive in India, we were hoping for a more enthusiastic response, but the curators of these museums assure us that once the screens are running it will be a case of more visitors than they can handle. We certainly hope so…

For those of you in the neighbourhood of any of these museums early next year (that would be 2010) do drop in and check out the display and send us your feedback at info@myth-design.com. We want to hear from as many visitors as possible so we can incorporate your suggestions into these and future displays we design.

The Myth Design team had a lot of fun in the production of this interactive and I’ve added some snippets of the coverage it has received here… If you wanna read what the articles have to say, then just click on them...

Myth Design - Beta Version

At long last we are moving to the beta version of our website – with a new html format in addition to the existing flash format. We’ve also added a sound clip which you welcome to turn off should it get on your nerves… (I’m the fussiest member an I’ve not needed to shut it off yet so probably you won’t need to either)

Its been a long time coming for a number of reasons – mostly our intense dislike for having to fight out every bit of code in html – besides the limitations it puts to our defying aesthetics :) Next up…hopefully a new look for our news reel so that its more a part of the site….

Besides this we’re hoping to put up a few new 2D animations and a couple of our newer web designs…so watch this space…

Vaacha - The countdown begins...

The end is finally in sight...After 2 years of travelling across the country, holding workshops, visiting musems and taking more photographs than i could have dreamt possible, Vaacha is ready to be launched.

On 4th January 2009, Vaacha - An Interactive Village will be installed at the Museum of Voice in the Adivasi Academy, Tejgadh and I still can't believe its finally ready and that the DVD's are being written as I type out this post. The project began even before we dreamt of starting Myth Design and has been a crazy ride throughout. Travelling from Tejgadh and Udaipur to Kozhikode, Ooty, Hyderabad and all the way to Agartala we had a great time, but seeing this interactive finally installed in 14 tribal museums in India is gonna be greater still.

We did the launch of the project website www.tribalartsmuseums.org at the IGNCA (Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts) at New Delhi last year, and while we've even made it past Rohtang and onto Keylong to install interactive displays in the museum there, I'm happy that this time the event is in the relative warmth of Tejgadh :)

So while our team is busy celebrating what we like call, the first interactive display of tribal art in India, I am looking forward to a well earned break, a vaccation i've been earning and saving up for over 2 years... Perhaps a visit to each of these placed without the stopwatch is now in order....

A big thank you to everyone who has seen our animations on YouTube India and sent in responses. When we uploaded all our collective works of animation and film we never realized that so many people would be seeing it. Naively, for people in the media business, we just thought of it as a means to link our videos to our website without having to shell out for storage space. (We are a startup on a shoe string budget). It was only the day after YouTube mailed to tell us that we were a featured video that the comments started pouring n and we dimly saw what a can of worms this was going to be.

The video posts gave no details about the contexts for which each of the productions were made and the meta data was merely there to fill space.

So while we’re already into the beta version of our website
www.myth-design.com we are now trying to get all this on track with YouTube and link up this, our unofficial blog to both ends of the chain.

I’ll save the rest for another post, till then :)
